While I am not a fan of spiders in real life this little guy or should I say girl reminds me of one of my favorite books as a child "Charlotte's Web"  by E.B. White.   Did you ever read that book?   This book was published in 1952 and is a classic in children's literature.  The sweet and warm story is about friendship and love and is even enjoyed by my grandchildren in this digital age.

If you haven't already read it check it out from you local library you won't be disappointed!  Thanks again for stopping by and if you are new to my blog you can find out more about me just click here.

Fabulous Phrases Stamp Set and Paisley Framelits Dies

Stampin Up Paisleys & Posies stamp set and coordinating Paisleys Framelits Comfort & Healing to You, 2

The Fabulous Phrases Stamp Set and Flourish Thinlits Dies (ops I used the Paisley Framelits Die by mistake - but love how it turned out) are a huge investment that will pay off in the long run.  This set contains both outside and inside saying.  How often do you wish you had a greeting to stamp inside your card.  This stamp set has 15 different greetings, plus a great filigree, flower and leaf.

A few weeks ago we visited one of my parent's best friends. They are both in the early to mid 90's.  As we visited I was amazed at how well they were doing they seemed the fountain of youth.  The question also popped into my head how much longer will I have them.  My parents are both gone, spending time with their longtime friends makes me feel just a little bit closer to them.

It seems our lives that were once filled with weddings and baby showers are more often filled with funeral's of elderly family and friends.  I am grateful to have this stamp set for all the occasions New Baby, Wedding, Sympathy, Thank You or even to send "Just a Note".

You will find this is one of those stamp sets you reach for every time you stamp!

Border Buddy Saturday - Jar of Haunts Stamp Set

Stampin Up Jar of Haunts Stamp Set, Holiday Catalog, Halloween Card Border Buddies Saturday

It's Border Buddy Saturday,

Patsy here and today I am going to share with you the Stampin' Up! Jar of Haunts Photopolymer Stamp Set and Everyday Jar Framelits.

For the cardbase I used Whisper White Thick Cardstock if you haven't given this cardstock a try you should.  It creates such a nice and sturdy base for your card, while having the same smooth surface of regular Whisper White.

The patterned paper is from the Halloween Night Specialty Designer Series Paper found in the Holiday Catalog.  You can't tell from the photo but the spider web is a shinny silver.

Stampin Up Jar of Haunts Stamp Set, Holiday Catalog, Halloween Card 2 eyes

I stamped the image with Tuxedo Black Memento Pad on Shimmery White Paper and then water colored with Old Olive Classic Ink and an Aqua Painter.  The eyeballs in this stamp set reminded me of an event I did in 2011 for my 500 Club Members.

Stamps to Die For 500 Club

It was a Halloween theme and everyone came in costume.   Our granddaughter Kitana on the left, then Betty Bengtson, Cindy Domek & me.  Betty and Cindy were awarded the Top Hostess award for top sales at their workshops.

Stamps to die for halloween fun treats

Our daughter is so creative and one of her favorite places to create is in the kitchen.  So she would often do the fun food for my events and this one was a real hit!  See the plate of Eyeballs, don't they remind you of the eyeballs in the jar?  The brain is a watermelon.

Mummy Hot Dogs, White Chocolate Covered Ghost Strawberries, and mouth full of teeth made with apples and slivered almonds and the sugar cookie witch fingers with almond nails.

In the United States did you know...

Halloween falls into the top 6 for sending holiday cards?

Here's how all of your favorite holidays stack up when it comes to sending greeting cards, according to the Greeting Card Association:

  1. Christmas
  2. Valentines
  3. Mother's Day
  4. Father's Day
  5. Easter
  6. Halloween

Over 17 Million cards are purchased in the US for Halloween and it is the 3rd most popular party day with only New Years and Super Bowl Sunday topping it.

For my Canadian friends...

According to Carlton Cards here are the top 5 holiday for sending cards.

  1. Christmas
  2. Valentines
  3. Mother's Day
  4. Father's Day
  5. Easter

I couldn't find any stats beyond the top 5.  More than 600 million cards are exchanged each year in Canada which means on average each person exchanges about 17+ greeting cards each year.

The important things is...

Do you enjoy getting a card?

Do you send cards to people you care about to make a difference in their life?

I challenge you to sit down this week and make a list of 3 people you want to send a card.  Then get out your stamps and stamp up a card and get it in the mail.

Make someone's day!

This month Alison and I are featuring the Jar of Haunts and Cookie Cutter Christmas stamp sets in our Border Buddy Free Card PDF offer.  Each month our online customers received a PDF with instructions for 8 cards with any size online order (big or small).

I don't normally make a lot of cards for Halloween but I really loved the Jar of Haunts set, partly because I can use it with my Everyday Jar Thinlits Dies (that match the Jar of Love Stamp Set from the Annual Catalogue).  The Everyday Jar Thinlits Dies also work beautifully with the Jar of Cheer set from the Holiday Catalogue too.  So that's three stamp sets that work with the Thinlits!

Jar of Haunts Stamp Set 3 Just in Case

I coloured the water and eye pupils with Aqua Painter and ink and then added some Wink of Stella to the whites of the eyes.   If you purchase through our online store the instructions for this card is included in your free PDF.

The Black Metallic Thread works beautiful with the Halloween theme along with the Basic Black Thick Baker's Twine.

Stampin' Up! Acorny Thank You Stamp Set

View while I stamp!

There are two very large beautiful old oak trees just outside my window and about this time every year the acorns start to fall.  As much as I want to pretend fall is not around the corner it is.   So I decided to stamp up a card today using the Acorny Thank You Stamp Set with coordinating punch.

Stampin Up Acorny Thank You Stam Set, Leaflets Framelits, Thank You Card,

  1. Card Base is Delightful Dijon 4 1/4" x 11" folded in half you can also use a 5 1/2" X 8 1/2" if you want a side fold card.
  2. The I stamped the Tree from the Sheltering Tree Stamp Set in Early Espresso on a piece of  3 1/4" x 4 1/4" Very Vanilla
  3. I then matted it with a piece of Early Espresso Cardstock  3 3/4" x 4 3/4" and adhered it to the center of the card front.
  4. With the Oak Leaf from the Leaflets Framelits I cut a leaf out of a piece of Crumb Cake 3 1/2" x 4 1/2" and adhered that over the Very Vanilla Cardstock.
  5. I then cut out another leaf in Cajun Craze Cardtsock 2" x 4 1/2" and attached that to the card front with dimensionals.
  6. I stamped one of the acorns in Delightful Dijon and punched it out and attached it to the lower left hand corner.
  7. Then I stamped the acorn top in Early Espresso and punched it out and placed it on top of the acorn with a dimensional.
  8. I stamped the greeting in Early Espresso and punched it out with the Duet Banner Punch and adhere that over the center of the acorn with a dimensional.
  9. I tied a small bow with Linen Thread and attached it to the Cajun Craze Leaf with a glue dot.

Fall is a beautiful time of year.

Jar of Love Stamp Set & Everyday Jar Framelits a perfect pair!

As soon as I saw the Jars in the catalog I knew the Jars of Love stamp set and Everyday Jars Framelits had to be mine.  It brings back so many happy memories canning with my Mom and Grandmother.  When Georgia peaches arrived in the summer we would can boxes and boxes of them.

Canned Peaches The arugula Files Blog
If you want to read more on how to can peaches just click the image

Once I had my own home I carried on the tradition.   I loved lining all the jars up when I was done canning and just admiring my work.  I no longer can but am having a blast canning with paper and ink.

Happy Scenes a great Stampin' Up! stamp set for many occasions

Hello Stampers,

It's Border Buddy Saturday and it's Alison here today!

One of the sets I'm in love with from the Holiday Catalog is called Happy Scenes and it's awesome for Christmas, Halloween and more!  Here's a card I received at Founder's Circle by Susan Adams, a Utah Demonstrator.

I love this card so much! The way Susan used the Leaflet framelit and have the scene show through is brilliant I think.

Happy Scenes Fall

The Hardwood background stamp set is perfect with the theme of the card  and it just adds to the autumn feel of the card.

Happy Scenes close up

In this close up you can see how softly this is colored and the popped up frame gives the card dimension.

Here's another card using the Leaflet Framelits in a more traditional way.  This card uses the Lighthearted Leaves stamp set and the images are cut out with the dies.  Isn't it beautiful?

Here is an awesome idea on how to use the Leaflets Framelits Die as a stencil.  First place the stencil on the paper and using a dauber sponge ink into the shape.  Remove the stencil and stamp the matching image on top with a darker image.  You are left with a layered ink look!

Leaflets Framelits

And...lastly...if you are feeling really adventurous how about this amazing autumn wreath made with the Vintage Leaves sets and the Leaflet Framelits?!

Vintage leaves wreath

The Happy Scenes stamp set is one of our Border Buddy stamp sets for October.  If you placed an Online order on Patsy's site in September you will receive a Free 8 page PDF Tutorial with images and instructions on how to make  4 cards using the Happy Scenes and 4 cards using  the Vintage Stamp Set.   If you placed an order of $50 or more from Patsy (in the US)  you will also receive 4 handmade cards in the mail from this month's class.

Week 2 - 12 Weeks of Border Buddies

Hello Stampers,

It's Border Buddy Saturday and it's Alison here! Last week Patsy introduced you to our new feature called 12 Weeks of Border Buddies Christmas.  Each week leading up to Christmas we will bring you our favourite Founder's Circle swap cards to get you inspired for the Holidays.

Today I'm actually going to show you two NON Christmas cards - not to confuse you but they were swaps that I just loved and I knew you would too.

The first is a Thanksgiving themed card by Julie Brancart..  It was one of my very favourites and since Thanksgiving in Canada is this Monday I thought I would show both my US and Canadian friends a card just in the time for both holidays.

Happy Thanksgiving from Canada!

Hello Stampers,

It's Saturday!  So that means another Border Buddy share from Patsy & Alison.

I wanted to wish my American friends all the very best for a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday (don't kill yourselves on that Black Friday madness thing you all do! LOL) and what better way than to share some of my favourite swaps I received with a "thankful" or "Thanksgiving" theme.  I know I'm a few days early but I wanted you to have some time to make these amazing cards before the big day!

DSC_9581 By Mo Dickie (my sister in Toronto)

Mo used the "bark" from the Thankful Tablescape Simply Created Kit (#133463).

This kit has lots of cool little elements including the fabulous White Stampin' Chalk Marker ((#132133) but I LOVE this birch paper ribbon so much that I think it's worth buying the kit just to get some! Just looking at it reminds me of growing up in the east - we don't see many birch trees here on the west coast.

Don't you love how Mo stamped the wood slice on the bark paper (which has texture by the way - looks like real birch strips from the tree)?

The stamps are from Truly Grateful (#131730 for wood and #131733 for clear mount).  These elements can be used for so many themes especially the wood chevron images!

By Glenda Travelstead

I LOVE the little safety pin from our  Vintage Trinkets (#118764) with the punched out heart - so adorable!

Unfortunately I can't give the artist credit because there is no name on the back but the little touches on this card are amazing.

The layering of the 1 1/4" Burlap Ribbon (#132140) with the 5/8" Crochet Victoria Trim Ribbon adds texture and dimension.  She also used two tiny pearls on the tag and made a cute "reinforcement" for her tag.  Love this!

By Kristyne Brandt

Kris' card is so gorgous in person that this picture can't do it justice but hopefully you can see some of the elements that make it a WOW!  First there is the  1 1/4" Burlap Ribbon (#132140) again but Kris has layered a piece of the 3/4" Crushed Curry Chevron Ribbon on top.  She has stamped and cut out two of the Magnificent Maple images (#131868) and popped up the "Thanks" image from Harvest of Thanks (#131736 wood, #131739 clear mount).  There is also the Gorgeous Grunge stamps (#130514 wood, #130517 clear mount) and Positively Chevron Background stamp (#130496 wood, #130499 clear mount) on the card front.  The finishing touch is the button tied with the Linen Thread (#104199).

By Colleen Vassos

I love this card - so simple and so elegant.  This could be used for Thanksgiving but it's a perfect "Thank You" card on it's own.

It uses the single Magnificent Maple stamp (#131868) which has been embossed with Tangerine Tango EP (#123106).  The layering and dimension are executed perfectly on this card.

Dress Form Stampin Up Witch tipped

You can imagine my surprise when my computer dings "you've got mail" and I open it to find a personal email from Karen Burniston.    Her email was filled with wonderful compliments and encouragement.  She mentioned with Halloween coming up she would love to see what I would do with one of the Pop n' Cuts, well that kept going through my mind over and over... and this particular morning it hit me what I wanted to do, I would make a witch with the Pop n' Cuts and Dress Up Framelits.  So this was my handmade creation.  What did we do before The Big Shot?
