Sunday Sketches SS031 - Really Fun Different Fold Card

Welcome to Sunday Sketches SSO31 by Stamps to Die For.

Sunday Sketches SS030 Card Sketch using Stampin Up Products www.stampstodiefor.com

Each Sunday I post a card sketch along with a card I created using the sketch.  Sketches often help get my creativity fired up.

Sunday Sketches SS030 Card Sketch using Stampin Up Products www.stampstodiefor.com 2
I created this card for last week's Color Your World International Blog Hop and then decided to set it aside.  As often times happens after looking at it a bit I decided it wasn't so bad and I loved the way it folded differently so I thought I could use it for Sunday Sketches.  This is one of those times I create the card and then the sketch.

Sunday Sketches SS30

For the card base I used the Thick Whisper White cardstock 6" x  5 1/2"  folded in half to create a 3" x 5 1/2" card front. I am excited to say Very Vanilla will have an optional Thick too in the New 2017 Annual Catalog!  Love using this firmer cardstock for the card bases.

Sunday Sketches SS030 Card Sketch using Stampin Up Products www.stampstodiefor-1

The stamps I used for today's card are from the Number of Years stamp set with coordinating Large Number Framelits.  I like how the numbers don't stamp solid giving a bit of dimension. I stamped them in Basic Gray and attached them with dimensionals to a Smoky Slate 2 7/8" circle I cut out using the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies and Big Shot.  LOVE LOVE LOVE the stitched shapes if you hadn't noticed.

The polka dot paper (2 1/4" x 5 1/4") is from the Naturals Designer Series Paper Stacks.

Happy is stamped in Basic Black and the ribbon is the retiring 1/8" Stitched Smoky Slate Ribbon.

This card will fit into our Medium Envelopes for mailing.   Hope this fun fold sketch will inspire you to stamp a card.

Sunday Sketches SS030 - Saying Goodbye to Wetlands Stamp Set

Sunday Sketches Card Sketch Featuring Stampin' Up! Products

Each Sunday I create a card sketch and then create a card using the sketch.  Sketches are open to interpretation.  You can create a card exactly using the sketch layout, using a square where there is a square, or you can change it to a be a circle, or oval or flower etc. You can also turn the sketch so if it is a vertical sketch you might want to turn it to be horizontal.

Today's card sketch is a simple and clean sketch.

I used the goose from the Wetlands stamp set to create today's card.  The next month and a half we will be saying goodbye to some of our favorite stamp sets, papers and embellishments.  Wetlands made my Top Ten stamp sets I am saddest to see retire.

Sunday Sketches SS029 Wetlands Stamp Set by Stampin' Up! www.stampstodiefor.com 2

The background paper is from the Serene Scenery Designer Series Paper Stack.  It has an great assortment of different designs and colors.

The Ribbon is 1/8" Stitched Ribbon in Smokey Slate.  Many of the ribbons are retiring so be sure to order your favorites before they are gone.  Everything except stamp sets is ONLY WHILE SUPPLIES LAST.

I love Stampin' Up!'s watercolor paper it is easy to get a nice stamped image while being textured enough to give an amazing watercolor look.  I stamped the image in Basic Black Archival Ink.  Then coloring with classic ink colors Delightful Dijon, Old Olive and Crumb Cake and a blender pen.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed today's card sketch.

Love the Mediterranean Stamp Set by Stampin' Up!

Usually I create a card sketch and then stamp the card.  For today's Sunday Sketch SS029 I created the Sketch from a card.  My arm is making good progress so hopefully will be back to stamping next week.

Sunday Sketches SS028 card sketch series by Stamps to Die For www.stampstodiefor.com

Today card was created by my stamping demo friend Amy Storie.  Her work is amazing and I always feel blessed to receive a card from her.  This card was part of the Stampin' Up! Advisory Board Occasions Catalog Swap.  I was honored in 2012 to be asked to serve on the Advisory board at Stampin' Up!  6 Demonstrators from across the US and Canada are selected.  It is an experience I will never forget.

Mediterranean Moments stamp set by Stampin' Up!

She used the Mediterranean Stamp Set that was inspired by my other demo friend Susan Nygaard.  Susan has sold over 1 million dollars in stamps during her career as a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - can you imagine - that's a lot of stamps.  When a demonstrators reaches 1M they are flown out to Salt Lake City, Utah for a special celebration.  One of the exciting activities while there are there is working with the Stampin' Up! artist team and create a stamp set.

Today's Sunday Sketch SS029

Sunday Sketches SS029

See the dolly sticking out from behind the stamped image?  The Dollies are two toned -  whisper white on one side - very vanilla on the other.   The image was watercolored with the colored pencils and aqua painters.  If you love to watercolor you will love the new watercolor pencils.  When using the watercolor pencils you will want to be sure to use the Basic Black Archival Ink pad on the Watercolor Paper.

The Retired List will come out tomorrow April 10 - I will be posting a link to a downloadable PDF Tuesday.  You can check my ONLINE STORE and I am sure Stamipin' Up! will have a link to the retired items on Monday if you can't wait.

Sunday Sketches SS028 - Card Sketch, Template or Recipe

No matter what you call it card sketch, template or recipe they really work.

When you make a card what takes the longest?  For many it is the design or layout that can be the most time consuming.  That is why I love a card sketch.  Many of us wouldn't dream of creating something in the kitchen without a recipe so why not have recipes for you hand stamped card making?

Sunday Sketches SS028 card sketch www.stampstodiefor-horz

Today's sketch is a simple one!  And just like cooking it doesn't have to be difficult to make to taste good, so it is with your cards.

Some Stamping Design Tips...

  • When creating a card often times it is good to have your elements create a visual triangle as shown above.
  • Using an odd number of elements instead of even is more pleasing to the eye.
  • Creating a main focal point on your card is important something that the eyes are first drawn to

Lovey as a Tree stamp set by Stampin' Up! www.stampstodiefor.com

I was at a stamping retreat recently and stamping this card, the person next to me said how did you get those blue streaks did you watercolor them.  I said nope it's a stamp, let me show you how.

The splash of color is from the Work of Art stamp set.  This is one of those must have accessory stamp sets to add color here and there randomly when you need it.   The trees are from the longest running Stampin' Up! stamp set Lovely as a Tree.  It has been around for almost the entire 18 years I have been a demonstrator.

Stamping Off Technique Steps Easy as 1 - 2 - 3 www.stampstodiefor.com

The Stamping Off Technique is super easy!

  1. Ink your Stamp as shown in the first photo
  2. Stamp your image as shown in the 2nd photo
  3. Stamp again without re-inking as shown in the 3rd photo
  4. Stamp again without re-inking as shown in the 4th photo.

The gray mat I am stamping on is called the Stampin' Pierce Mat.  Do you ever ink up your stamp and stamp to only find a half stamped image when you lift your stamp?  This mat could change your stamping experience forever especially if you use photopolymer stamps.  It helps you to achieve a great sharp stamped image.

Card Template Measurements:
  • Card Base: 5 1/2" x 8 1/2"
  • Mat: 2 3/4" x 4 3/4"
  • Whisper White: 2 1/2" x 4 1/2"

I hope I was able to share something new today or maybe just reminded you of this easy little stamping off technique that can give your card a little extra color.   Thanks so much for stopping by!

Love to hear from you if you have a question about stamping or would like to see a particular technique demonstrated please just click here to let me know.

Sunday's Sketch SS027 - Thinking of You Card

Sunday Sketches SS027 card sketch www.stampstodiefor-horz
Sunday Sketches - where does the time go, I can't believe we are already up to week 27 of the Sunday Sketches.   Card Sketches are a great way to begin creating your card.  I like a simple black and white sketch to get me started.  Then just pick your colors and stamp set and you are ready to go.

Sunday Sketches SS027 card sketch www.stampstodiefor.com

This is a very simple card sketch for creating a clean and simple card.   Just because they are simple to make doesn't mean they can't leave a lasting impression.

Measurements:

  • Card Base:  Soft Sky - 5 1/2" x 8 1/2"
  • Mat: Dapper Denim - 2 1/2" x 3 1/2"
  • Whisper White: 2 1/4" x 3 1/4"

Penned and Painted stamp set by stampin' Up! www.stampstodiefor.com

I absolutely love the Penned and Painted stamp set from the Annual Catalog.  It is a two step stamp which makes for amazing results.

  • Here I stamped the outline across the card front in Dapper Denim ink.
  • For the stamped image on the Whisper White I stamped the outline of the flower petals in Dapper Denim ink and the sold part in Soft Sky ink.
  • The leaves outline is Garden Green ink and the center is Mint Macaron ink.

The ribbon is the in-color Rushed Dapper Denim ribbon.  I love how many of our coordinating embellishments give our cards a professional looking touch.

The "Thinking of You" is from the Window Shopping stamp set. I honestly can't tell you what Stampin' Up! was thinking when they gave it this name - can't find the correlation.   But you know me I sometimes (by accident) end up calling stamp sets by another name than their given name.

Clean and Simple Thank You Card.

Today's Card is a very quick and easy card to make.  I needed to make a bunch of Thank You cards and this was a great layout to use.  I had a lot of the Pop of Pink Designer Paper I wanted to use up.

You can easily substitute any designer paper and color of cardstock you might have on hand to make this card.  Need birthday cards?  Just use a birthday sentiment where I used the Thank You.

The Cardbase is Melon Mambo cardstock and the Thank You is from the One Big Meaning stamp set.  You can never have to many sentiment stamps that is for sure.

Sunday Sketches SS025 - Easy as 1 - 2 - 3

Hello Stampers – It has been quite a week – I will share more later. I have had technical difficulties which has prevented me from getting my Sunday Sketches Post Up and my Tuesday Post.

I am afraid tomorrow’s Just in CASE will be up a bit late also. Please bear with me while I work through the techy issues.

My goal in sharing a card sketch each Sunday is to help inspire you to get creative and do some stamping. We all hit road blocks occasionally when we are creating. I find a card sketch is often the thing I need to help me get started with a card.

Much like I shared Thursday in the Just in CASE Series using a card sketch is as easy as 1, 2, 3.

  1. Find a sketch you want to use (you kind find the past Sunday Card Sketches Click Here)
  2. Pick your stamp set
  3. Pick out your colors

You are all set with the basics for your Card Sketch Challenge. I would love to see what you come up with – just drop me an email to share your card or visit my Facebook Page and share there.

Sunday Sketches SS025 y Stamps To Die For

Give this weeks a try. I find it is best for me to just focus on the black and white sketch when I am creating - otherwise I want to use the same colors and stamp set as a card.

Sunday Sketches SS025 Dragonfly Dreams stamp set and Detailed Dragonfly thinlits dies by Stampin' Up! www.stampstodiefor.com

The sentiment came from the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set and the cut-out dragon flies are from the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits Dies. You can buy the stamp set and coordinating framelits in a bundle and save 10% on the two.

I have loved hearing from stampers across the US who have been inspired by the card sketches and also the CASE (Copy And Share Everything).

Now to see if I can send this via and email post and hopefully you will receive it. If you are ale to read my post I would love to have you let me know…

Just scroll down to the bottom and click on comments. Thanks for helping me out!

Sunday Sketches SS024 - The art of mixing patterned papers.

Mixing patterned paper can be a challenge when you are creating a card.

Today along with this weeks card sketch I am going to share a couple of tips for putting patterns together. I used the Party Animal Designer Series Paper from the Occasions Catalog page 5.

Sunday Sketches SS024 Birthday Banners Stamp Set by Stampin' Up! www.stampstodiefor.com

I picked three patterns - odd numbers tend to look best. Once you get the hang of mixing three you can try putting five different patterns together.

  1. Pick your focal point pattern (center paper)
  2. Your next one should color coordinate with your focal point pattern but be larger or smaller in print. (packages)
  3. Add different scales so for the third pattern you wanted it a different scale than pattern 1 & 2.  I chose the candles they are just a bit smaller than the packages.

While all of my papers tend to have the same colors remember they don't have to be the same colors, just coordinate well.

I hope these tips help you next time you are picking out several papers for your project.

Here is this week's card sketch.  It is hard to believe that I have been sharing sketches each Sunday for 3 months!   I would love to see what you come up with. Snap a picture with your smart phone and upload it to my Facebook Page.

Sunday Sketches SS024 www.stampstodiefor-tile

I used the Birthday Banners stamp set for today's card that I just got in my Stampin' Up! order this week.  It was a new set featured in the 2016-2017 Annual Catalog.  Sometimes I can't get all the I love ordered before the next catalog comes out, the Holiday Catalog and before you know it, the Occasions and Sale-a-Brations are here.

After 19 years I still can't get enough of Stampin' Up! stamp sets and products.   As a demonstrator I am not required to only share with you Stampin' Up! products, however there isn't enough time to share all that I love.

Sunday Sketches SS023 - Beautiful You Stamp Set

I hope you are enjoying the Sunday Sketches.  It is one of my most popular posts each week.  I decided maybe I would add the measurements on the card sketch that way if you pin it to your  Pinterest board for safe keeping you will have the measurements handy.

Sunday Sketches Card Sketch www.stampstodiefor.com

Card Sketch Measurements:

  • Card Base: 4 1/4" x 11" top fold - 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" side fold
  • Card Matt: 4" x 5 1/4"
  • Rectangle: 2 1/2" x 4 1/4"
  • Square: 2 5/8" x 2 5/8"

Beautiful You Stamp Set

This is a pretty easy sketch to use.  Just pick out a main image for the square and go from there. I decided to use the dancing women from the Beautiful You stamp set featured in the Stampin' Up! Occasions Catalog on page 24.

I really like the sentiments in this stamp set. I love the mixed fonts and what they are expressing like on this hand stamped card "Live with Passion, Laugh out Loud and Love Deeply".

Sunday Sketches SS023 Beautiful You Stamp Set by Stampin' Up! www.stampstodiefor.com

For this card I decided to just use the stamped image without coloring it in.  So I stamped the women with Stampin' Up! Mint Macaron Ink on Mint Macaron Cardstock.  The words I stamped with Night of Navy Ink right on top of the women.

I also stamped the hat part of the women in Night of Navy Ink on a piece of the Stampin' Up! Affectionately Yours Designer Series Paper and cut it out and glued it to the hat on the stamped image on the Mint Macaron.  This is a stamping technique called paper piecing.

Paper Piecing Technique How To www.stampstodiefor.com

Paper Piecing Week 48 was one of my 52 week series of stamping techniques called Technique How To.

Each week included a Blog Post, PDF Printable Tutorial and a Video. Check out all the past 52 Weeks of Technique How To Click Here.

What is your favorite stamping technique.  Is there one you would like me to show you?
