How would you like to add some stitching to your cards without ever dragging out the sewing machine?
I am going to share a small secret about myself…
I am not fond of sewing. It isn't that I am not an accomplished seamstress, I had the best teacher my Mom. It's just that I never could get the tension on the sewing machine to work right once I got my own machine. My Mom would come adjust it and after she left I would have a thread nest in the bobbin area. Can anyone relate?
I gave my dusty sewing machine to our Son when he bought his Clothing store, for him to do quick hems etc.
It wasn't long and sewing started to appear on cards. When I mentioned I might need to get a new machine to sew on my cards…
My husband gave me the look, a new machine wasn't in the cards (no pun intended), besides if I bought one he might expect me to mend things too and that would take away from my stamping time!
I do love the stitched look so when the Stitched Shapes Framelits came out I was so excited. The look of sewing – but no sewing. You may notice that I have been using them on a lot of cards lately. I LOVE THEM!
I changed up the colors and the stamp set on today's CASE card. Doesn't it make it look so different? Notice on the Stampin' Up! concept artist card on the left there is sewing on the tag. I was trying to think what I could do besides sewing…
Then it hit me, maybe I could use the Stitched Shapes Framelits to create the stitching on the end of the tag. So I grabbed the Square one from the set (there are 4 squares, 4 ovals and 4 circles in different sizes).
Let me show you a couple pictures to illustrate how I added stitching without sewing!
- The cardstock is 1 1/2" wide x 3 3/4" long.
- I place one end of the cardstock underneath the square framelit
- The other end on top.
Then I ran it through the big shot, but only until the one end that was underneath the framelits went through and then I backed it out. I was so excited I had to run and get my hubby and show him how amazing it was. Well he tried to act excited.
I could hardly wait to share it with you because I knew you would totally get how cool it is. The little chick is from the Little Cuties Stamp Set featured in the Occasions Catalog on page 17. He doesn't always have to have ears – you stamp them separately.
