Most of you who have followed me for years know my love of Trees. Sheltering Trees stamp set is one of those classic stamp sets that will remain on my shelf long after it retires from the catalog.
Paired with the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper (DSP) makes for a great fall card. The paper is a great value at only $10 for 48 6" x 6" sheets; 4 each of 12 doubles sided designs. It is the perfect paper for creating masculine and also nature cards.
The pumpkins are cut out of the Painted Autumn DSP and placed on the front of the card with dimensionals. I go through lots of packages of dimensionals because I love the added depth it gives to a card.
The "Oh Happy Day" (from the Happy Birthday Gorgeous stamp set) is stamped using Early Espresso Classic Ink on So Saffron Cardstock and punched out with the Classic Label Punch.
Card Measurements:
- Card Base (top fold 4-1/4" x 11") (side fold 5-1/2" x 8-1/2")
- DSP: 4-1/4" x 5-1/2"
- Very Vanilla: 3" x 4-1/4"
As I sit here and write today's post the fall colors remind me of my Mom. While she thought the colors where beautiful the smell of fall reminded her of fall pregnancy and morning sickness. All three of her children were born in the spring her favorite time of year.
While she lived with us while she was going through chemo she would often recite this poem that she learned in grade school…
"Trees" by Joyce Kilmer (1886-1918).
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
I have recently learned there is a Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest in the Nantahala National Forest in North Carolina. I will certainly be visiting this forest on our next visit to North Carolina hopefully in the Spring.

Patsy, that is a beautiful card. My special memory is of mom sitting at the sewing machine for days at a time to make us girls dresses to wear to school and making shirts for my brothers.

I just used Lovely as a Tree to make a card this morning. It’s my ‘go.to’ set. FYI….I’m probably going to copy this card design!
